Niantic is bringing down the hammer on cheaters with a lifetime ban penalty

Niantic, the company behind Pokemon Go, appears to be bringing down the hammer on cheaters.

Pokemon Go accounts will now be "permanently terminated" if it is discovered players are using "cheat" software which tries to hack or trick the game.

Things which will result in a Pokemon Go lifetime ban

  • Using any third-party software to find Pokemon
  • Tricking the game's GPS into thinking you are somewhere you are not
  • Using game emulators, for example a copy of the game on a PC

Specifically, it's cracking down on users who have created bots to trick the game, as well as those who use the bots, by serving them a "lifetime ban" and pursuing legal action, according to The Guardian.

Now it looks like Pokemon Go addicts who have taken advantage of the loopholes might have to pay the ultimate price.

A spokesperson from Niantic said "it wanted to ensure the game was ‘a fair, fun and legitimate game experience for everyone", which is why they put this ban in place.
